NHA Social Housing Development |
The last major completion of the Association was our homeless facility Mater Dei at 298 Antrim Road. The unit was built on the site of the former Legion of Mary hostel, which had operated for many years.
The new building has been designed and constructed to reflect the former building and the surrounding buildings and is a wonderful facility proving self-contained units for 13 families. The scheme is managed in partnership with the DePaul Trust, and NHA are delighted to be working with them on this project and remain committed to playing our role in the overall strategy for dealing homelessness.
We still await positive news about the Parkside Urban Renewal Area. Along with the local residents we have been awaiting the outcome of the NIHE/DSD assessment of the area in order to arrive at a final development proposal.
NHA remain hopeful that the Minster for Social Development Margaret Ritchie will make a positive report on this later in 2008 - with the preferred option being dull demolition and redevelopment of The Glen and Parkside vicinities.
NHA continued to purchase houses from the open market in the last year despite the volatility in this market.
We have maintained our Clients Charter Accreditation status and remain focussed on the challenge of coping with changes in future procurement of social housing. To this end we have identified other partner Associations to assist us in this and we remain focused on our goal to deliver good quality affordable housing in the future. We remain keen to develop partnerships and relationships with others who are like minded and can help us facilitate this goal.
